When people ask me where I’m from, I default to saying DC rather than Fairfax, Va. It’s easier and a bit ‘cooler,’ I guess.
I was born in Fairfax, Va. I went to elementary school, middle school, and high school all in Fairfax, Va. When it came to selecting a college to play soccer at, I ended up picking George Mason University in (you guessed it) Fairfax, Virginia. Post-graduation, I accepted a full-time position at a job located in Tysons Corner, Virginia (only about 20 minutes from home, depending on traffic). It’s safe to say I have been safely placed inside this bubble of VA/DC for quite some time.
Don’t get me wrong, Fairfax is an amazing place and I am extremely fortunate to have grown up there. That being said, staying in the same place for that long was taking a mental toll on me. Whether it comes to work or life, I’m always trying to stay on my toes and look for new challenges.
